Sing your heart out in N1

Sing your heart out in N1

Words by Joseph Farrell

Islington is buzzing with the latest addition to its thriving bar scene – the second branch of Lastminute.com founder Martha Lane Fox’s Lucky Voice.

The karaoke den at 173 Upper Street, N1, follows on from it’s synonymously named successful counterpart on Soho’s Poland Street. The bar and seating area, all bathed in orange, black and white high gloss, is sleek and minimal yet inviting. Towards the back are seven private karaoke rooms (four to 15 people each) where you can belt out your favourite numbers in embarrassment and privacy until midnight or 2am on a Friday and Saturday

The food and drinks are a reasonably priced selection of traditional pizzas with a Japanese twist. Buckstyle recommends the ‘Wasabi Margherita’ and the ‘Manatsu’, a vodka cocktail with a touch of sake, pineapple, coriander leaves topped with ginger beer.

Fox said she wanted to create a fun venue, somewhere in between a bar and a club. You’ll notice that the peachy-pink logo is reminiscent of the signature colour of the well known website – a colour she calls “hers” – and is a subtle expression of her influence on the bar.

With charming and generous bar staff, it is the perfect venue for a good old fashioned sing-song.
