C.P. Company AW 09/10 Show Report
Words by Celia-Jane Ukwenya
C.P. Company’s show was an evolution of the familiar styles we are used to seeing from the fabric-obsessed label. The show had an abundance of like colours ranging around the monotone and earth-tones, from khakis to browns and greys. Silhouettes were undeniably masculine and irrefutably C.P., such as funnel neck ribbed zip up cardigans, layered with military style cropped jackets. The coats were structured and mostly cropped, too. The looks- layered with buttoned up shirts, turtle necks and prison-guard styled sweaters- felt reminiscent of the 1940’s, and was full of historical references in terms of the somber tones and utilitarian feel.
This time, those fabrics had a worn look with rumpled textures shining through. Jackets often had a stressed appearance, with visible evidence of all the processes and technology in the material, including jersey being manipulated to appear like leather. The collection hinged around a workwear feel, with strong elements of smart casual. Not a giant leap outside C.P. company’s usual territory, but a collection that is sure to impress both the die hards and newcomers to the label equally.
